In the 4th century, George, the favorite soldier of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, denounced the Emperor’s cruel new law against Christianity, which led to his execution. He became a legend for his bravery.

In the 5th century, Constantine the Great, has built the church in Constantinople (today’s Istanbul), dedicated to his name.

George was adopted as a Patron Saint of England, by the Norman Kings, back in the 10th century
