This uniquely Serbian custom is a celebration of a family Patron Saint’s Day that remains unchanged from father to son - as a tradition of inheritance.


All members of the family and close friends observe Slava together honoring their Saint Protector.

Ingredients:


1 pound organic whole wheat (grain)

10 cups water

1 pound ground walnuts

1 cup brown sugar or to taste

1 tablespoon nutmeg

1 pack vanilla sugar


Pour the wheat into the cooking pot, cover it with water, bring to boil and drain well. Put the wheat back in the pot and add another 10 cups of water. Bring to boil again, leave it on until water evaporates. Remove from heat, cover and let it steam for at least 3 hours or overnight. When ready, grind the cold cooked whole wheat (with meat grinder), add walnuts, brown sugar, nutmeg, vanilla, sugar and blend well until smooth. Serve decorated  with whipped cream.
